IB History of the Americas HL

Grade Level: 11-12                                                                                    Length of Study: Two Years

Prerequisite: Completion of Global Studies II or Global Studies II H with course grade of 85 or above and teacher recommendation

 Course Description: History of the Americas HL is a two year college level course of study, leading to an International Baccalaureate Diploma or certificate. The first year of study (11th grade) is based on the American History Regents that is part of our curriculum. The class will pay particular attention to events and relationships that involve the United States with nations of the Western Hemisphere. During junior year the students will begin researching and planning their Internal Assessment Historical Investigation.

The Second year will be devoted to 20th Century topics involving the rise of single party states, the causes of the Cold War, and practices and effects of 20th Century wars. Students will complete the 2000 word historical investigation during the first semester with the comprehensive three part final exam given in May.
